Scott's on StreetView!

You may or may not be aware that Google StreetView is now pretty much nationwide. After a quick look at my house the other day (which was photographed on a Monday morning, because the bins are out...), I investigated Swanwick, and spotted Scott:

Explore where you live and see if you're a StreetView Star too! There might be a prize or two if you can find yourself on StreetView and send me a screenshot...

In the meantime, you might also find this article from The Telegraph interesting.

Pompeii...

Most of you will know about Pompeii, which was destroyed by the eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79AD. What you might not know, however, is that you can explore the ruins of Pompeii in Google Streetview... Click on the picture below!

Streetview UK

I'd be surprised if you haven't heard by now about the arrival of Streetview to the UK. Streetview, which has been about in the States for a while now, allows you to explore panoramic ground-level images in pretty impressive detail.

At the moment, Streetview is available for 26 UK towns and cities, including Nottingham and Derby... This is where I lived in Nottingham when I was training to be a teacher!

Exploring Bradford City Centre (including the "regeneration"!!) was also interesting...

If you want to have a play, you need to go to www.google.co.uk/maps - drag the little yellow man at the top of the zoom slider onto any of the streets that are highlighted in blue - and get exploring!!

Google Maps Streetview

There's been a lot of talk of late about Google Streetview - mainly because Google and their Streetview cameras have arrived in the UK.

The Streetview feature has been available for a number of US cities for a while now, the route of this year's Tour de France was 'done' in Streetview, and imagery is now available for some Japanese and Australian cities. From a geographical point-of-view, this has huge potential - but not everybody is happy...

If you haven't yet investigated Streetview, go to www.google.com/maps and click on the Streetview box in the top right corner of the map... If you then zoom in on the US, France, Australia or Japan, and click on one of the cameras, you will be able to explore in 3D!
