Mexico City...

I mentioned the other day about Dan Raven-Ellison's Urban Earth project, in which he is walking across - and photographing - three major world cities...

His journey across Mexico City is now complete, and some of the photographs and stories from the walk are on the Urban Earth blog... I particularly liked this picture:

Next week is London...

Urban Earth

I am looking forward to seeing the results of Dan Raven-Ellison's new project - Urban Earth.

"For the first time in human history more people are living in urban than rural places. Over the summer of 2008 URBAN EARTH will be travelling on foot across Mexico City, London and Mumbai to witness our increasingly URBAN EARTH."

Check out the Urban Earth website and follow the progress of the project on the Urban Earth blog.

Why not take your camera and go on your own Urban Earth Adventure?

6 hours of Geography!

Dan Raven-Ellison and a team of Geography students, teachers and academics are the next act to take part in BBC3's Upstaged... Click on the picture to find out more about their ideas...

Dan and the team will be entertaining the nation with 6 hours of Geography, starting at 3.30pm tomorrow (Tuesday)... You can watch - and rate their performance, send in questions, etc. online, and there will be a highlights show on BBC3.

The Planet

Thanks to Dan Raven-Ellison for pointing out The Planet - a superb site looking at our planet... Particularly good, I think, is the Earth's History in One Year (in The Big Picture section).

I'm bored!

Six whole weeks and no school! If you are short of something to do, try out some of Keri Smith's "100 ideas" to get you thinking...

And if you need some space to think, you can buy some! Check out one of Dan Raven Ellison's many great ideas - Thinking Space

I've mentioned My Walks before, but I still think it's a great idea, and if you haven't investigated it and thought differently about some of your own walks, do it now!

Take your camera with you if you're going somewhere... Set up a Flickr account and share your photos... And send some of them in to Geograph...

And most of all, to quote a certain history teacher - ENJOY!

Fab Fairtrade Photos!

Dan Raven-Ellison - geography teacher extraordinaire from Reading - has put together this excellent "virtual transect" of a cocoa farm in Ghana. The farm is one of many that sells beans to Kuapa Kokoo - the co-operative that supplies Divine and Dubble Chocolate (ask my Yr8s about these... or better still, go buy some and try it for yourself!). Thanks Dan!
